About Kennel KaTaYa

Kennel KaTaYa has existed for 34 years. First in Denmark and now in Sweden.

I (Anni) and my husband Lasse - lives since November 2022 in Fridafors, a small community in southern Småland on the border between Blekinge, Skåne and Kronoberg counties.

We are Danish, but speak Swedish, English and German as well.

We are both dog people with a large D and enjoy our small pack of dogs with three females and one male. We walk daily our dogs in nature, show our youngsters somewhat, but otherwise the everyday life with the dogs is what fills our lives.

My first litter was born in 1990, and I raised until 2004 a total of 15 litters.

And now I allow myself to brag a bit...

Many of my puppies showed their paws at the dog shows and in just 13 years there were 20 show champions in Denmark, Europe and USA. In other words, every 4th KaTaYa puppy became a champion.

Many of my puppies went to foreign breeders and were included in their breeding programs, and many KaTaYa dogs are still to be found in a number of Tibetan Terrier pedigrees in Europe and USA.

It has been fun to follow these show- and breeding dogs, but it has been just as nice to follow the dogs that were sold to regular puppy buyers. The exhibition results is basically just the icing on the cake, so without exception - thank you to each one of my puppy buyers.

I have mainly concentrated on breeding Tibetan Terriers, whose origins can be traced back to the very first Tibetan Terriers imported to Europe. Often called Lamleh dogs. But I have also bred and today also have Tibetan terriers with a slightly different pedigree. Regardless of lineage, all Tibetan Terriers with official pedigrees are purebred Tibetan Terriers, and I see no line as better than the other.

I was lucky - and patient - and had the opportunity to start with some amazingly good bitches, giving me the opportunity to breed puppies with an unusually pleasant and open temperament and during my breeding I deliberately chose to use a number of good foreign males to get as much genetic variation as possible.

My puppies have always been cuddled, have of course grown up inside our house and have been with us and the other dogs until the day they left for their new homes. To me, it has been very important to socialize my puppies the very best way in order to give them the ultimate conditions to easily fit in their new homes.

After 2003 and until now, I took a looong break of my own choice as a breeder and exhibitor. During these years I simply didn't find the time to raise puppies in the way, I think you have to, if you want to breed in a good way. You must always have time for your own dogs, you must have plenty of time to take care of the litter and puppy buyers and last but not the least time to help your puppy buyers, when the puppy is sold. And I was also quite tired of exhibitions.

What I loved the most as a breeder was sitting next to the whelping box, follow the puppies' development in character and outlook, to socialize every single puppy with respect for its personality (no puppy is 'just' an ordinary puppy to me) and last but not least to stay in touch with and help the new owner of the puppy.

Tibetan Terriers have - despite the long break - been in my life and in the house all the time. And to one degree or another, all dogs have in these years been related to my earlier dogs and have had the good temperament and appearance that characterizes a KaTaYa puppy. And I have closely followed the breed all these years, too.

Along the way, other breeds crept in – wire-haired dachshunds and bichon havanais. Breeds I also was fond of, but the Tibetan terrier has always been, is and always will be the children of my heart.

Old photo, but that's the way we still live with our dogs

Looking back, dogs have always been a great part of my life.

From my very first dog which I bought at 10 years old and until today, each one has had a wonderful dog life with nice walks in nature, lots of love and praise. Our dogs are with us everywhere (also on holiday) and - of course - live with us and are part of the family.

Our dogs take up space in the house, run (and sometimes dig) in the garden and yes, are simply well cared for and pampered. That's how we want to live with dogs, and it's such a life, I think the puppies I raise also deserve.

Today, we - my husband and I, live together with 4 Tibetan terriers. Good old Smilla which is on her way to 10 years, Annie 3 years old and our teenagers Anton and Xarisma.

Smilla was born i Germany, Annie and Anton are both from Swedish breeders and Xarisma from a Norwegian breeder. All are lovely, nice and healthy dogs with their own strong and unique personality.

We are now pensioners, have settled in Småland and fell very comfortable in Sweden, the country in which we have spent so many holidays over the years.

I have just finished the SKK's breeder exhibition, and now we finally have plenty of time to raise puppies again in the way we think puppies should be raised.

We definitely do not plan many puppies, max one litter a year/every second year and probably no more than 3-4 more litters before Kennel KaTaYa closes down for good. But we simply want to enjoy a few more litters from good lines.

Right now, the plan is to raise a litter from Annie in the early spring of 2025. The father of the litter will of course be a nice, healthy male with a wonderful character and an interesting pedigree. Feel free to contact me, if you have an interest in this litter
